Addis Ababa City Mayor, Kuma Demeksa visited and laid foundation stones at the selected sites on Wednesday Jan 11-2012

Addis Ababa City Mayor, Kuma Demeksa, on Wednesday visited and laid foundation stones for the construction of 42,000 new condominium housing units in Addis Ababa.

The Addis Ababa City administration plans to construct the condominium houses at 16 sites located in the six sub cities of the Ethiopia’s capital city. The condominium units are expected to make an estimated 300,000 Addis Ababa city residents beneficiaries. “This project is our priority. We will do everything in our power to make sure its successful completion,” Ato Kuma said while visiting the construction sites.

With a view to curbing increasing housing problems, the Addis Ababa city administration has launched the construction of over 17,000 housing units since last budget year and the new project will take the number of houses under construction to 60,000.

“Addressing housing problems, creating jobs and rehabilitating villages are among major contributions of the projects,” said the Mayor of Addis Ababa adding that housing transfers are enabling fair distribution of wealth among the society.

At the end of the current Ethiopian budget year, the Addis Ababa city administration expects to complete 80 per cent of the project which is projected to consume 6.7 billion birr and create jobs for over 80,000 people.

A total of 856 local contractors, who have received a special training, will take part in this project.
