A new building height regulation for Addis Ababa City will be implemented in the near future, the City Administration said.
Officials of the Administration and also the Urban Information and Plan Institute said here on Thursday that the building height regulation designed in 1994EC had limited the height of new buildings to 20 floors.
The new building height regulation, which is revised by the Addis Ababa University, permits to construct up to 55 floors and above as per the design of the building.
For instance the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia has got permission to construct a 52-storey building for its head office, they said.
The regulation in particular takes into consideration infrastructure development, environmental impact, historical sites and security affairs, among others, they said.
The officials said the new building regulation encourages investors to engage in development activities and thereby accelerate development of the city.
Addis Ababa City is one of the 12 cities, which are registering rapid growth in the world, they said, adding, the new building height regulation takes into account socio-economic as well as infrastructure aspects, among others.

the previous height regulation was very poor. and the reason was
very poor. the best is to make the city one of the well known cities
in its high rise buildings in the world.

Did they take into consideration the ‘palace’ (bete-mengist)…i mean…washington Dc, being the seat of white house is still a modern city but they hv a hight regulation, that prohibits them to not go any higher than the existing memorial building……..my point is “menged teserto kaleke behuala, leka drainage system yasfeligal ayenet endayhon”….
