City Administration to transfer over 10,000 condos

The City Administration has embarked upon massive construction of condominiums in a bid to curb the housing problem in Addis Ababa.

The Addis Ababa City Administration has said it would transfer over 10 thousand condominiums to beneficiaries on Sunday 7 April 2013. This is the 9th round of transferring the houses to citizens through drawing lots.

General Manager of the City’s Housing Development Agency Mesfin Mengistu told journalists on Friday that 27 thousand houses have been handed over to beneficiaries in this Ethiopian year (2005). He also noted that the Agency is constructing over 95 thousand houses at a cost of 61 billion Birr in the same year in various sites.

10 thousand 257 houses set to be transferred on Sunday were constructed at a cost of over two billion Birr.

The housing project is contributing to boost saving culture of citizens in addition to solving housing problems, he said.

The houses to be transferred are completed over 80 percent and are found at Bole, Yeka, Akaki Kality, Nifas Silk Lafto, Kolfe Keranio, Lideta and other former sites in various sub cities.
