Ethiopia celebrates 10th National Flag Day

Ethiopians across the country today celebrated the 10th National Flag Day.

Here in the capital, it was celebrated at the Addis Ababa Stadium, in the presence of residents and high-level government officials, including Deputy Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, Shitaye Minale and President Mulatu Teshome.

Addressing the crowd, President Mulatu said that “the national flag is the symbol of our freedom, peace, equality and civilization as well as it is the foundation for the democratic unity which was built on our will.”

The highest efforts made by the government to beat poverty by designing Growth and Transformation Plan (GTPs) have brought about a remarkable results in the economic, political and diplomatic sectors, the President stated.

However, he said, there were challenges in the past two years, which among others include corruuption.

As part of the efforts to respond to these challenges, the government had conducted renewal program to look into its 15-year journey and was able to take corrective measures to quell these problems, the President said.

The President finally called on all Ethiopians to contribute their share for the success of the government’s efforts.

Deputy Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, Shitaye Minale for her part said nations, nationalities and people of Ethiopia were able to build a federal system founded on equality and their will.

This, according to the Deputy Speaker, helped the relations and unity of nations and nationalists to deepen, Ethiopia’s recognition to increase and our flag to raise up globally.
