March 15, 2016 – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism rated hotels in Southern Nation, Nationalities and Peoples State – out of which four hotels got four stars. Haile Resort, Ker-Awud International Hotel, Lewi Hotel & Resort and South Star International Hotel, all located in Hawassa, are the four hotels which earned the four stars.
At first, experts from the Ministry prepared 41 hotels and resorts found in the region. Nonetheless, it was only 28 of them that were rated. According to Fortune, most of these hotels and resorts are found on the banks of rift valley lakes.
In addition to this, Central Hotel, Gezahegn & Elfnesh Hotels & Resorts, Rediet Assefa International Hotel and Oasis International Hotel were also rated three stars. Out of these hotels, it is only Rediet Assefa that is found outside of Hawassa. It is found in Butajira.
The rest 20 hotels and resorts were rated two stars and one star.
Commenting on the development Tadelech Dalecho, state minister for Culture & Tourism, said Star ranking helped hotels and resorts to further improve their services.
According to Fortune, the rating was done based on the hotels and resorts service and study conducted in partnership with the World Tourism Organization (WTO).
